Studio Brief 01 - Wayfinding Final Design/Evaluation

In the images below I have completed my final design of the Wayfinding system based on the Sky Plaza Student Halls. I have tried to make sure that it does not look clinical nor childish like the current one. I believe I have successfully achieved the more updated modern and sophisticated look for this kind of private halls for the newly young adults (Students).   Evaluation Overall, most of my peers believed that the redesigning of my student halls, Sky Plaza were appropriate to the wayfinding brief. From looking back at the feedback from my  peers has given to me. I have tried to follow their advice on how to make my wayfinding more modernised for students. As the current colour scheme is quite childilsh and  looks like a children play area like Wacky Warehouse. I tried to make my wayfinding have a theme, like examining the colour of the building of Sky Plaza. However, when I  produced this within my mock ups, my tutor pointed out that it could look ...

Studio Brief 01 - Wayfinding: Unite Student Halls - Sky Plaza development

The images below show me redesigning the whole wayfinding system for my chosen place, the Unite Student Halls - Sky Plaza. Here I have done sketches and I have looked into more of the icons/symbols to make it simple for many international students who study here. In addition a map.

Study Task 08 - Typesetting

In this session, we had to look into the re-typeset of Lewis Carroll's - A Mouses Tale using a postmodern approach and a modernist approach. Lewis Carroll's - A Mouses Tale Original  The Mouse's Tale by Lewis Carroll   "Mine is a long and a sad tale!" said the Mouse, turning to Alice, and sighing. "It is a long tail, certainly," said Alice, looking down with wonder at the Mouse's  tail; "but why do you call it sad?" And she kept on puzzling about it while the  Mouse was speaking, so that her idea of the tale was something like this:— Fury  said to a mouse, That he met in the house,  “Let us both go to law: I will  prosecute you.” Come, I'll take no denial, We must have a trial, For really this  morning I've nothing to do. Said the mouse to the cur,  “Such a trial, dear sir,   With no jury or judge,  would be wasting our breath.” “I’ll be judge, I'll be jury”Said cunning old Fury;  “I’ll try the...

Study Task 03 - Public Information Video/Research

" For 65 years, the UK Government's Central Office of Information produced a marketing literature and films to inform and educate the British public on all manner of subjects , often in dramatic and shocking fashion ." During the Christmas break we have to select and watch one of the listed public information films. By watching one of the chosen film, I have to analyse the following aspects: Message  Key facts Tone of Voice  Audience  The public information I have chosen to analyse is: " Charley - Strangers"  Here is the link to watch the whole 30 second video:  http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/1964to1979/filmpage_strangers.htm Here is the little boy and the ginger cat called 'Charley' Here is the little boy with the stranger and 'Charley' the cat is warning him to not go with strangers. In this public information video that I have chosen, is about Stranger Danger scenario, based on a children's anim...

Studio Brief 01 - Wayfinding Development/Feedback Critique

During this session, we went into small groups of 6 to present our work that we did for wayfinding, I did my wayfinding based on my student hall, Sky Plaza. Here are the feedback from my peers in my group who examined my work: Good - using colours of the building. Consistent use of arrows. More creative signage. Maybe change the colour of the building. Good ideas, agree truly with the whole playful, kids area. More modern, mature colour scheme. Possibly don't limit colour scheme too much, could make it look too dull. Good research into existing colour scheme. You have achieved your aim to make it look less childish and look more modern. The concept of using the building colours is strong and colour coding works well. Not sure on the type choice. Good ideas but needs developing - good range of of mockups. I agree that the colour scheme is very playful and I can understand you made it more sophisticated. Shapes you've experimental with are nice, but I agree w...

Study Task 07 - What is a Book? - Folds

In this session, we had to fold examples of paper into pages for a book, analysis of production, scale and appropriateness. By using the practical investigation we need to investigate into the awareness and usage of a range of folded publications and related pagination issues. We need to produce and print an A4 black and white guide to producing the folded publication, which is used for the guide.  Here are the images below of some folded examples I did:

Study Task 02 - Symbols Final Feedback/Evaluation

In this critique group we analysed our symbols we created for the our chosen Olympics sport. The chosen sport that I redesigned the symbol for was Trampolining. Here we had to consider the following of what the my design symbol portrayed: Audience, Scale, Contrast, Impact and Clarity.     Here are some of my designs done digitally and hand drawn:  Overall, my critique group thought my designs were appropriate for the sport (Trampolining). However the design of the figure with  the split legs apart, the motion of the bounce looks like spikes than a motion.  But the spinning action on the other designs looked much better, especially with the spinning motion of the flip.  The trampoline in the bottom of the figure looks better in the sketch form as its more square, than the digital rectangle shape and circle shape.  The symbol might not be clear, as a few people could n...
