Studio Brief 03 - Collaboration Branding: Mock ups

In this blog, what I have here are the rough sketches made into Illustrator vector outline for the colouring part which will be transfer to Photoshop for that stage.

Again I have used the template of the cheque layout that I found on the internet, to draw out this on Illustrator. It also helps me place where specific information goes for the invitation.

We decided to use Garamond as the font for our information.

For the colour scheme of the invitation, I researched on my previous blog some colour psychology for business colours. We decided as a group to go with a Gold, Silver, Black and White colour scheme as they give a good professional and sophisticated
appearance.

Here meanings of the colours that I listed:

Gold
Psychologically it is seen as the colour of inner wisdom, quality and wealth. It is associated with prestige, luxury and material wealth, suggesting that a product or service is expensive and exclusive.
Physiologically, it can induce great feelings of happiness and bliss or alternatively, deep anxiety and fear.
It implies generosity of time, money and spirit. It is the colour of victory, hence the use of gold medals for winners.
Used with dark blue it suggests honesty, trustworthiness and success. Used with black it suggests extreme opulence, elegance and wealth. Using it with white creates an elegant impression.

Positive Color Meanings in Business:
  • wealth and prosperity, abundance
  • value, quality, luxury, expensive, opulence
  • victory, achievement, grandeur, importance
  • happiness, beauty
  • excellence, prestige, nobility, extravagance
  • attraction, wisdom

Silver
Silver is a colour associated with prestige and wealth. It is seen as a sophisticated colour related to female energy, prosperity and modernity. With its reflective qualities it relates to intuition, clairvoyance and mental telepathy.
Physiologically, silver is calming and soothing, with a lightness that is more uplifting than grey. Silver is patience, reflection, perseverance, dignified, soothing & calming, self control, organisation and responsibility. It is illuminating and balancing (neither black nor white).
On packaging silver looks sleek, smooth, and lustrous. It has a coolness about it that relates to the future and science and technology.

Positive Color Meanings in Business:
  • modern, sleek, high-tech, scientific
  • glamorous, distinguished, elegant
  • conservative, prestige
  • calming and balancing
  • illusion, intuition, imagination
  • feminine power, sophisticated
  • wealth and riches
  • aids mental, emotional and physical releasing and cleansing
  • illumination

Black
Psychologically black means authority, power and control. In many situations it can be intimidating, unfriendly and unapproachable. Alternatively, it can be seen as sophisticated, dignified and serious. Physiologically, it is intimidating and controlling, although its power can in still confidence in some. Black is favoured by the youth market aged approximately 16 to 25, who are still trying to find their own sense of identity and place in this world. Those who are achievement oriented and ambitious also favour black.
Black board with printing in any of the jewel colours of red, emerald green, magenta, or bright blue, or gold, silver or white will create a dramatic impression. Black packaging can make an item appear expensive and heavier.

Positive Color Meanings in Business:
  • authority, power, control
  • protection and comfort
  • strong, contained, formal
  • sophisticated
  • seductive, mysterious
  • endings & beginnings

White
In colour psychology white is the colour of new beginnings, wiping the slate clean, so to speak. It is the blank canvas waiting to be written upon. While white isn't stimulating to the senses, it opens the way for the creation of anything the mind can conceive. Physiologically, white is calming as it creates simplicity, organisation and efficiency out of chaos. It clears the way forward. White's basic feature is equality, implying fairness and impartiality, neutrality and independence. It is a reassuring colour which helps to create order and proficiency. White is useful in businesses where cleanliness is imperative, such as dental surgeries and medical centres, but these businesses need some green or pink to assist in healing and to create a calm and caring atmosphere for patients.

Positive Color Meanings in Business:
  • innocence
  • purity, cleanliness
  • equality, complete and whole
  • simplicity
  • immaculate and neat
  • self-sufficient, pristine and open
  • new beginnings

Studio Brief 01 - How Do You Read? - Second Development

In this blog, I have finish printing out the physical  small publication book of Design Principles. I believe this second  development work was successful as the colours of the type has  been nicely and evenly printed out.The information on the  pages are arranged properly in the right order as to the the one  on the Macbook. However, I need to chose a different type of paper  stock which is much sturdier, e.g - card stock. As when I put the rubber band around the spine of the book it curls. Even though the  visuals of the book is very minimalistic and simple I believe this is  appropriate to the audience who would read this kind of book context.  Especially, for young students who want to learn the right knowledge  and information of design principles, whilst becoming a Graphic Designer. For the colour scheme I went for a very neutral yet colourful scheme,  as these colours only outline the significant factors of Design...

Studio Brief 01 - Secret 7: Final Design

In this design board, I have chosen this Record Sleeve design cover to be my final  submission for the live brief - Secret 7. I particular favoured this design as it really  portrayed the artists song and style well as the variety of the different shades of blue tones gave a good theme for the overall concept of the chosen lyric that I selected. “You were the perfect star. Again describing the meaning of the design will be yet again explained here. The symbolism  of the star is similar to a heart of the person who is going through a heart break thus this  is similar feeling when the break bit is being cracked like glass. The glass look makes it  highlight that the person’s heart is very sensitive and weak and the colours of the different  shades/tones of blue express their unhappiness and also how innocent and pure they are. The way the star outline repeats depicts how the person is slowing forgetting the perfect star  which has broken the heart...

Sticker development design For the sticker/title design for the publication the polaroid shape was taken as inspiration. The idea for the polaroid designs were that the audience and participants can sign their signature on the stickers to make the publication more personal.
