Studio Brief 03 - Collaboration Branding: Feedback from Presentation/Action Plan

In this blog, talks about the feedback that my team received back based on our idea concept and designs on the Banker's Club.

The feedback was that overall the concept of the Banker’s Club idea is good, however, the design for it were quite dark colours which didn’t really match the professional look of a bank well or portray it well. The colour scheme of the: Black, Gold, White and Silver reminded them as colours used for a Chocolate Brand.

The food/drinks were not significant as its not an event for selling these, its more based on the designs that they students have done for the future currency. And making the Banker’s Club an exclusive club for specific people only is not a suitable idea as it should be free to anyone or it puts up a barrier that only specific can only go to. Thus making less
people come to this exhibition event.

Therefore, as a group we came together and sorted out what things needed to be changed. These are the things which needed a major change, especially the visual design part of it. The colour scheme, typeface, not making the event so exclusive, more social media etc.

Final Typeface choice
Fonts are Logotype is OptimusPrinceps, Body type is all Helvetia thin-medium

Again mostly Sam did the redesigning of the typeface, logo and flyer. Whilst Aneta worked on the way finding with collaboration with Sam.

Top line - OptimusPrinceps Regular, Bottom - Red Velvet

'Every Book Starts with an Idea: Notes for Designers' - by Armand Mevis (Notes/Analysis)

During this session, we look into and analysis an essay called 'Every Book Starts with an Idea: Notes for Designers' by Armand Mevis.  The whole class did a group discussion, we shared some significant quotes within the essay that relates to our brief Type in Context: ' All these books have to be designed. Someone needs to decide which paper, typography, cover, to use'.  'It may be a jungle; you may find it hard to get the nice job, and you might get lost, but that is part of the adventure'.  Mistakes are inherent to the job of making books through trial and error'.  Over the years we have learned to limit the number of mistake; we are now much more in control'.  'Ideally, all books start with a question. The clearer the question, the more precise the answer'.  'As designers we are as responsible for content as anyone else'. 'Some books arrived in plastic bags like garbage, stac...

Studio Brief 01 - Logotype, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

In todays session, Simon Harrison gave the class a brief about redesigning a logo for brand that we have chosen. But this time we were told to do this individually. The logo we were allowed to choose could be any type of brand to redesign. However, it either had to be an international or nation brand. So for the start of this brief I went into the shopping district Trinity in Leeds, to find a logo of brand and re-create it to make it more updated or fresh. There are some images of the shops within Trinity that I considered to redesign: Once I have chosen a shop logo which I want to redesign, need to focus on by using only type. I have to experiment with stroke, scale, spacing, contrast and alignment to interpret my chosen company. I need to consider the following: Who is the company? What do they do? Who is the target audience? Where will the logo appear? Chosen Shop logo to redesign - Krispy Kreme, Doughnuts   The shop that I wanted to r...

Study Task 01: DAY 1 - Collaborative Branding: Burflex

In this Study Task we got selected into small group to rebrand a logo from a chosen company that we got given. The focus of this Study Task, is working collaboratively with the group to reproduce a current logo of a company to more of an appealing one. We had to effectively communicate the market, target audience and a sector in a contemporary context. By figuring out the most suitable typeface as a starting point and only working with typography only with out changing it. The company brand my group got to rebrand was the ' Burflex (Scaffolding) Ltd '. At first we did some research on the company and they offer a variety of services, these are: Debris Netting Rubbish Chutes  Layher Protect  2D and 3D CAD design   SELECTING A TYPEFACE   After researching the important facts based on the company's background, history and purpose, we then researched into the Six Vignelli's typefaces, these are: Garamond Bodoni Century Expanded Futura  Times R...
