Studio Brief 02 - Licence to Print Money: Digital Work

In this blog, shows my sketches being turned to vectors on  Illustrator for me to experiment with colour on Photoshop.  I have experimented with the vectors by layering each one of them  on one another (layering effect). I’ve done this to get an visual image  of how the colours work on one another. As the process of this  making a new currency for money is not digital work but using the  traditional printing method which is screen printing. By practicing this layer effect with colours on Photoshop, I can  define which colours of the outlines of these vectors will stand out  more against the different types of textured papers that I will mostly  have some trial and errors with when printing the vectors on the  Screen printing screen with the images being meshed on it.  I will need to make the outlines of both the number and symbols  on the currency in quite a high resolution so no small specks will  be shown when I pu...

Studio Brief 02 - Licence to Print Money Ideas/Initial Sketches

In this blog, I have roughly made some quick sketches on  getting an idea on how to base on a particular theme. These were:  a nature theme, precious metals theme and gambling money theme  based on the cards symbols.  I have also done some layouts of my banknote design in the front  and the back. So I can get a physical and visual idea on what I  will be designing and printing on my banknote. Instead of the  Queen of England face being on the banknote, I thought it was  appropriate to put the British Arms on the Banknote which are  the Unicorn snd Lion either on the back or the front of the note. The nature theme banknote will consist of the different seasons  these are Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. I will try and get  paper that also portray these then screen printing my designs on  it.  The precious metals will consist of Sliver, Bronze, Gold and  Platinum. I will use metallic colours to convey thi...

Studio Brief 02 - Licence to Print Money | History of Money & Banknotes Research

Money History The word money comes from the Latin 'Moneta' - which is the first Roman coinage that was minted at the temple of Juno Moneta in 344BC. Before coinage, various objects such as cattle, pig's teeth and shells had been used as money. For most of its history money has taken the form of coins made of precious metal. The money has had intrinsic value. Many of the units of modern money recall their origin in amounts of precious metal (e.g the pound sterling was originally the Roman pound (twelves ounces) of silver.) The Beginning of Banking in Britain In Great Britain, the modern age of banking began in 1640 when King Charles I, needed cash to pay the (English) army that he was raising against Scotland ( of which he was also King.)to seized the golf bullion that many merchants and nobles had placed in the Tower of London for safe-keeping. In 1642, a further warfare broke our with the English Civil War between the King and Parliament. London was the stronghol...

Studio Brief 02 - Licence to Print Money

In this Studio Brief we have to undertake research into the development of coinage and banknotes while exploring the cultural understandings of legal tender.  By following this initial engagement, we need to begin with a more developed interrogation of financial transactions in order to complete your own proposal for the future of the banknotes. In this present day, we have Apple Pay, Bitcoin, contactless, Paypal and other options for the transferring of funds. But is there a future for "real" and "physical" money? To undertake this Studio Brief I will research into the development of coinage and banknotes. While exploring the cultural understandings of the legal tender. Following this initial engagement (including the research trip to the People's History Museum's 'Show Me The Money Exhibition), this will begin with a more developed interrogation of financial transactions in order to complete my own proposal for the future of the banknote.  Your...

Studio Brief 01 - Secret 7: Self Evaluation

Overall, during this brief I personally had a sceptical experience with this brief. This is  because I believe I wasn’t very fond with brief Eventhough I did like how it was quite an  open brief, that us the students could design whatever we wanted for the chosen artist,  but the live brief was quite strict like not being able to use the artists name nor the title of the song. I found it quite difficult to come up with ideas for this brief, thus making me lose my time  mangement for the designing stage. I believe I stuggled with this brief as I couldn’t really make up my mind which designs were best and suitable for the artist. Again I was being  very indecisive during this brief. I was very indecisive whenever deciding to chose my  physical drawing or my digital drawings but after few trials and errors. I finally got the  results I was looking or.   My Secret 7 record sleeve design is based on, the song ‘Clearest Blue’ by the artist ...

Studio Brief 01 - Secret 7: Final Design

In this design board, I have chosen this Record Sleeve design cover to be my final  submission for the live brief - Secret 7. I particular favoured this design as it really  portrayed the artists song and style well as the variety of the different shades of blue tones gave a good theme for the overall concept of the chosen lyric that I selected. “You were the perfect star. Again describing the meaning of the design will be yet again explained here. The symbolism  of the star is similar to a heart of the person who is going through a heart break thus this  is similar feeling when the break bit is being cracked like glass. The glass look makes it  highlight that the person’s heart is very sensitive and weak and the colours of the different  shades/tones of blue express their unhappiness and also how innocent and pure they are. The way the star outline repeats depicts how the person is slowing forgetting the perfect star  which has broken the heart...

Studio Brief 01 - Secret 7: Top 3 Designs

In this blog demonstrates me choosing and finalising which  design I should choose for my final record sleeve cover for the Secret  7 brief. These design have been voted by my peers and tutors and I  have made them into my top 3.  All designs illustrates the lyrics from Chvurches - Clearest Blue ‘You were  the perfect star’ however, I have use different style and colour for each  design.  The first design highlights has a very burgundy/plum colour  scheme, these colour represent how the star used to be pure but now has  turned poisons, this is also emphasis by the crack of the star  symbolising a heart break as well as the music beat.  Next design is  a more shattered star with a dark yet light contrast. Again this depicting, how the star is not as  perfect and pure as it used to be and now has become more corrupted. The yellow/golden line  stresses to stay away from it as a guard.  ...

Studio Brief 01 - Secret 7: Development

In this blog it presents me experimenting  with different colours for the non vector and vector  outlines I produced.  Again I have use Andrew Bennecker, as a colour  inspiration for my record sleeve colour scheme  as I believe his choice of colour and style suits  the two artists music and image.  Here are some examples of the designs that I  have experimented and worked with. However,  I still need to choose which artist I want to design  a cover for. This is because of the Secret 7 Live  brief rules. Therefore in the next stage will be, finally  choosing which record sleeve I will do for the  top 3 record sleeve designs.  I also need to do a minimal of 30 thumbnails for  this brief as it portrays my development work.      This is following on with me designing 30  thumbnail designs for this brief. As I will have a variety of different designs to try and  deve...
