OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Overall Module Evaluation

OUGD602 | Extended Practice - Module Evaluation In conclusion of the overall module of OUGD603 – Extended Practice. I found this module the most stressful and challenging out of the other two modules. This was due to the timescale of some briefs that longer than expected, collaborations and clients. In addition multi-tasking with various of briefs and trying to stick within the given timescale. The briefs that were the most time consuming where the Starpack’s student awards ‘Future Milk Bottle’ &   ‘Luxury Tin designs for Tea and Coffee’. The reason for this was that I wanted to create the bottle and tin design out of a 3D printer. However, I underestimated the amount of time I had to get the tin and bottle model accurate and the amount of time/hours for the 3D printer to build out the 3D packaging designs. There were many trials and errors before the prototype was functional and practical to use for the final outcome of the brief. Therefore, for a project similar to pac...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 03 | Development - Final Publication & Evaluation | BBC (Our Generation) - Life being British Born Chinese

Final Design Below is the final 'Our Generation' publication.  Evaluation In conclusion the design process of our British Born Chinese brief 'Our Generation' Publication was challenging. Initially at the beginning stages of the brief we were unsure and strive to produce something simple (publication) or big (exhibition). The reason of this uncertainty was if we were able to collect enough information from the depending number of potential participants (BBC Society - Leeds University). In addition thinking and collecting questions to ask the potential participants was important as we needed to collect significant quotes that reflect on a British Born Chinese lifestyle. Despite this problematic situation we were able to get at least 16 to 17 participants (including ourselves) to contribute to our brief. We further created a Google form for the participants to write some of their experiences, what being a British Born Chinese individual is like and so on.  By usin...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 04 | Final Design & Evaluation | Action against Animal Cruelty Campaign - Petection |

Final Design - Petection Adoption Gift Box Below are the finished photographs of the physical Petection adoption gift box.  Evaluation In conclusion the design process of our Action against Animal Cruelty brief also known as satisfactory. Initially at the beginning stages of the brief we were unsure to either do something minimalistic or extravagant  to produce for the final outcome of the brief. We wanted to make something which is able to make main consumers and new potential consumers the awareness of animals in cruelty (especially: cosmetic testing, medication/science, used for fur and adopt not buy.) One idea of final outcome was to create four seasons of animals magazine. The reason of this idea was that an editorial product such as a magazine will be able to convey the awareness of animals in cruelty. The second idea of the potential final outcome was to create an adoption gift box, with posters and a possible website mock-up design.  ...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 03 | Development - Constructing Publication | BBC (Our Generation) - Life being British Born Chinese

Printed Covers and Pages My collaborator Leah was in charge of printing the final publication. From the images below the pages are printed in a matte yet a slight hint of shine paper material.  Construction of Publication - Saddle Stitch My collaborator also bind the publication covers and pages with a 'Saddle Stitch' method. Definition of saddle stitch - a stitch made by placing the center of the fold (as of a magazine or pamphlet) across the saddle of the stitcher and driving wire staples through and clinching them on the inside —called also saddleback stitch, saddle-wire stitch. The overall publication design and layout was successful.

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 03 | Development - Publication Layout design further development | BBC (Our Generation) - Life being British Born Chinese

Secondary Publication Layout Development Due to my collaborator's timescale and work circumstances - I further developed the publications layout and contents. Within this development stages I tried to keep with the guidelines within the publications layout and added more Graphics or designs to the publication as the previous layout was empty and too plain. To make the publication more appealing I reused the polaroid vector and at the bottom of it, placed my collaborators written names illustrations. This will give an idea that it is the participants that has written their name on their page.  To reiterate keeping to the colour scheme (red, blue and yellow) each participant's pages are colour coordinated but has the other colours either in text or a paint brush stroke to keep the colour scheme consistent. The photographs were converted into a black and white (monochrome) tint as if we kept the original col...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 04 | Development designs - Printed final pieces & Construction of Adoption Gift Box | Action against Animal Cruelty Campaign - Petection |

Final printed poster designs In the Digital print room we printed five sets of poster designs for our campaign for promoting the awareness of animals in cruelty. We both decided to print these posters in a glossy finishes, this allows the poster to have more of a professional approach when put on walls and billboards.      Stuff toy - Bunny & treat bag Below is an image of a knitted small bunny which is included for the adoption gift box. For the treat paper bag packaging. The paper treat bags pattern designs consisted of using non-toxic inks colours: orange, red, light green and dark green. The stamps used were: paw and rabbit this will allow to keep with the pattern and colour schemes.  Test of using animal stamps & colours Final bag design with gold ribbons to seal the bag.  Final printed sticker and loyalty card designs Underneath are the final printed sticker designs for...
