Studio Brief 02 | Product, Range and Distribution Brief | Breastfeeding Controversy - Development

When it came to choosing between the disabilities or breastfeeding issue, I found this part extremely challenging as both ideas were good and there are many ways of campaigning the two issues in their variety of concepts. Despite this with the help and support of feedback that I received from both peers and tutors, I decide to commence on the issue of 'Breastfeeding in Public controversy'. The reasoning of this being the final decide of my topic was due to the popularity and demand of peers/tutors took on the idea.

In social media there was an uprise due to women being discriminated due to breastfeeding in public. Due to the extreme hate against women breastfeeding, there were many protests and high advertising controversy for the rights of breastfeeding in public.

For a starting point to create a campaign for supporting woman's rights for breastfeeding. I have created a spider diagram branching out with ideas on how I could promote this in a physical form:

By following this spider diagram as a guideline on what methods, research, techniques, progress etc. based on the issue that I have outline. This would keep me in a steady yet schedule routine. To strengthen this I will also create/write up a brief based on my issue.

To commence with this brief, I have done a few quite illustrations on Adobe Illustrator of milk cartons. These can be shown below:

The reasoning behind the imagery of milk cartons. Is during the pass milk cartons would have missing person on the packaging. This was clever as every person in society would purchase milk for their everyday necessity. This made people who purchased the milk aware of who was missing, which is very good advertisement.

This is a very similar reason why and how that I am basing this concept on the 'breastfeeding' issue. Not only it shows segregation and discrimination to women (like milk having favouritism due to brand or colour) but also that no matter the reason the consumer is still buying the same thing. Despite the packaging/price and which cow has produce the milk. This is very similar to women's breast milk, it still the same and 100% natural.

Milk comes with any benefits for health like a good part of every beings healthy diet. Similar why breastfeeding is positive as it gives benefits for the health of newborns later in life where they are still developing.

Publication Layout - Leah For the inside of the 'Our Generation' publication, the collaborator Leah was in charge of this  brief's outcome segment. The publication's layout was constructed with 'Adobe Indesign' Leah made guide lines and measurements to help assist where the Photographs and the text should be placed. Illustrations of a paint brush stroke was experimented to give the pages more characteristics. We mutually agreed to make the size of the publication A5 format, and the number of pages are 16. Previously it was going to be 17, however one participant was unable to provided us with their childhood photo for us. Due to this situation Leah had to be more selective with the photos and information (Quotes) that we believe was significant for outlining our briefs context.  Below are some images of this layout format: Participant page order by names: Katie Sung  Leah Chen  Jackie Wan Tracey Lau Eliza Mo Kylie Lee Lewis Capper...

Jan Tschichold - Grids

Feedback from Tutor of Publication After  receiving  feedback from my tutor, he informed me to use grids within arranging my layout of my publication pages. This will keep my images and text in a consistent manner, thus making it visually professional. To achieve this precise layout, I will research on Jan Tschichold Grid System. This will allow me, to understand this type of matter of using a grid.  Jan Tschichold Jan Tschichold was a typographer, book designer, teacher and writer  (2 April 1902  Leipzig ,  Germany  – 11 August 1974  Locarno ,  Switzerland ) . Tschichold's Grid System Fibonacci & Golden Ratio Fibonacci sequence ratio 8:13 links to the Golden section. This sequence is not only evident within design but also nature. 1.62 -  Forms the basis of paper sizes and its principles can be used as a means of achieving balanced designs .
