Design for Screen - Final After Effect promotion video

For the stop motion animation for my app, the final animation was successful. However, it was difficult yet challenging to operate. This is especially difficult as I am an beginner in After Effect, I always had to go to websites Youtube video tutorials to help me get the correct motion for the specific sections I wanted moving on the screen. Also finding suitable music to fit in the app’s concept was quite challenging to find and put in place whilst being on time. Below are some screenshots and a link to the final video.  Final Swoop App prototype video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BYB8YIb0cI Screenshots  of final animation

Design for Screen - After effects trial

In this blog, there are screenshots below of me using the program After Effect and hows me doing a trial of my app prototype in progress. I had to look up tutorials to help me get the correct effects I wanted my app to have throughout the video, and also adding music to the background. I have taken screenshots to show the procedure on how the app will function. There will be a link to my student Youtube account, that show the videos of trials that I have done with my app.  Mock up no.1 - after some research on basing on current apps, a lot of the loading screens were either a bar, a rotating/spinning circle. I took the inspiration on the spinning/rotation movement for my app's loading screen animation. I used the four colours of my colour scheme and made 1/4 of them. Then I combined them together to make a whole circle to make the rotation animation. I also added the vector of the paper plane as it is sending the information to the plane. Then at the bottom the words 'order ...

Design for Screen - Illustrator vectors

I started to design on Illustrator some icon vectors, following from the sketches. The reasoning of using Illustrator vectors than Photoshop is that Illustrator vectors can keep their high quality when transfering into After effects. With these vectors it will be more easier to move and to control it for making an stop motion animation prototype. For the Affect effects animation software, I had to make different iPhone screen on Illustrator which consisted of the various options that the user can operate for the airline app. By creating making the different screens, I will be able to then do many effects when opening each section. There are some images of the finalised screens that will be put in the After effects animation.

Design for Screen - Airline Logo Swoop design

Proceeding with the sketches, I have developed them in a digital format via Illustrator. I could not decide if wanted a simple logo icon or just the name itself. Therefore below are some images of testing which logo I will go for. It was quite a difficult decision between the paper plane icon or the word swoop with the long curved dashes. Both looked simple yet eye catching and both were very appropriate for the concept. In the end I decide to go with the name swoop with the long curved dashes under it. Some of my peers advised that I could in corporate the paper plane within the app as a loading screen or an icon for a section in the app.  I then tested the chosen logo against the colour scheme again, in case there might be some change to the design. Overall, the previous chosen colour scheme (blue, purple, gold, white, black and darker blue) was suitable for the phone app. Here is a reminder of the colour s...

Design for Screen - More sketches development

Sketches of creating an Airline company The final verdict was to design a new Inflight entertainment app, than the screen. The reasoning of this was many  peers and tutors advised me that will be more useful and convenient for the passengers before they aboard the plane. It will have similar functions as the personal television, by pre booking  movies, tv series, music and viewing games. This will then be added to the passengers personal playlist. Then the passenger can order their food and drinks, so once they board the plane the order will be in place.  Below there will be a sequence of images of sketches that I have designed for the app.  List of order of the app Various names for the Airline Company Logo designs Icons for apps

Design for Screen - Colour Scheme & Psychology update

The colour gold is the colour of success, achievement and triumph.  This colour is a warm and positive colour associated with our most physical needs and our will to survive. It exudes a strong and powerful masculine energy. The colour silver has similar energy to gray but it is more light-hearted and optimistic. This colour represents open communication from and between the heart and the spoken word. It relates to the electronic age and the world of computers, and communication on a large scale. Cream, tinted with a hint of yellow, encourages new ideas.  Wine is a reddish purple. An old-fashioned colour, wine is honorable and linked to family traditions. Silver blue relates to one-to-one verbal communication and self expression. Copper is a colour that encourages orderliness and organisation. A colour of true contentment, independence inspires determination and ambition to achieve great things, a sense of purpose in striving for goals. Communicat...

Design for Screen - Mobile phone app Wireframe

In this blog, I present a wireframe of the app that I will be creating.  this is followed by the steps the user will have to go through when operating the app. The blue circle highlights the buttons on the screen being selected and the app button opening. Here are the images below of my work.

Design for Screen - Typeface

For the inflight entertainment personal television and inflight phone app. I have research what type of typeface would be the most appropriate for a global target audience.  Alcubierre is a minimal and geometric sans serif font. Created by Matt Ellis, this font will complement any design it’s part of. Designed by Rodamir Tinkov, Qanelas has a geometric touch to it. Its available in several weights and is perfect for both headlines as well as normal paragraphs. A humanist sans serif font, Cloud by Typomancer is incredibly versatile with five weights. Inspired by the early modernist era, Corbert by  Jonathan Hill  has optically adjusted circles that give the font clean lines and wonderful legibility. Unique, designed by  Art Maker,  might have a retro look, but it still has that rugged modernistic feel to it. Montserrat typeface,  Often compared to  Proxima Nova  for it’s charming utility, Montserrat is a useful ...

Design for Screen - Feedback | Screen or App?

Inflight Personal television screen or App? Following on, between the decision between redesigning a personal television display screen or creating an app that connects to your personal television when the passenger boards the plane. The final choice, with the help of peers and tutors was to do the phone app. The reasoning of this was that, most personal televisions on planes are quite up to date and the layout of them are usable and functional.  Whilst a phone app is more interesting with this kind of function. It will be more useful and convenient for the passengers before they aboard the plane. It will have similar functions as the personal television, by prebooking: movies, tv series, music and viewing games. This will then be added to the passengers personal playlist. Then the passenger can order their food and drinks, so once they board the plane the order will be in place.  Therefore, I have search for some examples via the internet, Pintere...

Design for Screen - Examples of inflight entertainment system/app

Before commencing on the design process of creating a new redesign of the inflight design system. I looked online for some images of current inflight entertainment systems/apps and see how they are arranged. This will assist me on how to present the display screen and splash, what functions will be there to allocate the users needs and so on. Then I will design some wireframes to help me to visually interpret how to further construct a simple, clear and minimalistic my own version of an inflight entertainment system/app.  Inflight entertainment screen Inflight entertainment app
