OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 06 | YCN Student Awards 2017/18 - KFC Bucket Design Brief

YCN Student Awards 2017/18 - KFC Bucket Design The Brief Create a fresh new design for the KFC bucket that will con temporise it, and elevate it to true iconic status.  Background KFC, the world's largest chain of chicken-based service restaurants, grew from the chicken business set up by the Colonel Harland D Sanders in the 1950s. The Colonel had found a way to combine 11 herbs and spices with flour to create a unique taste, and to this day the secret recipe is only known to a handful of people. It is locked away in a vault in Louisville, Kentucky.  The KFC bucket is widely recognised piece of packaging, synonymous with KFC's Original Recipe chicken, and with family sharing occasions. However, as the way in which people share food changes, the bucket needs to be con temporised and moved to true iconic status.  Historically, the bucket has symbolised family time together. But sharing food i...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 01 | Development - Sketches & Ideas | The Bear And The Stars Logo Design

Initial Sketches The initial sketches are illustrations that I drew from other influential bear designs from: logo designs, brands, poster, and illustrations on the internet. The client Jodie requested her logo to consist of the follow a bear looking up to the moon with stars around it. For the colour scheme she would like the northern lights colours. Therefore below are quick rough sketches of the bear logo.  The idea of these quick illustrations were to make them imitate a bear silhouette by keeping them 2D as the client is an animator who specialises in 2D animation hence keeping to her style ethics. The constellation of the bear designs is to enforce the bear being in the night sky. By drawing out different star shapes (diamond), a crescent moon and the shape/details on the bear have been considered. The use of the grid help layout the proportion of the size of the moon and bear  silhouette for digitalising.  Katie's sketches of bear logo Illustrator...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 01 | Research | The Bear And The Stars Logo Design

Inspiration & Research Before commencing this brief it is essential to begin looking at previous and current bear logo designs. This will help narrow down which  particular bear designs are more appropriate for smaller icon/thumbnail for her Youtube channel initially and potentially her professional website.  The recurring theme of a bear logo is that majority of them are: bold, simple, have at least one to three colours, the face of bear, silhouette of the bear, a paw print and the name of their brand. For example: WWF.    By referring  back  to these different types of bear logos we (collaborative partner) will individually sketch out bears shapes, northern lights, stars and moon shapes and try to comply them together. These will be share via the google drive so both of us will be able to access, preview and edit each of our designs.  Personal Ideas from other bear logo designs The client is a huge fan of disney...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 02 | Research | Ed's Hairdressers Logo Design

Inspiration & Research Before commencing this brief it is essential to begin looking at previous and current hair dresser logo designs. Specifically one which only use typefaces this will help narrow down which  particular hair dresser logo designs is suitable for redesigning 'Ed's Hair'.  The recurring theme of a hair dresser logo is that majority of them are: bold, simple, have at least one to two or three colours. Which Ed's hairdresser colour scheme is: Black, purple and white.    By referring  back  to these different kinds of hairdresser logos some of them have illustrations of scissors and hair which are semiotic of being a hairdresser. Thus using these existing logo designs as a guide I will take some of their illustrations e.g. hair dresser equipment on the Ed's hair logo.  Personal Idea The client and owner of the hairdresser is Brazilian and specialises in Brazilian blow dry. Instead of using Ed's icon blac...

Studio Brief 01 & 02 | OUGD505 End of Module Evaluation

End of Module Evaluation - OUGD505 To conclude on the OUGD505 module evaluation both studio brief 1 and 2. I found both briefs equally challenging especially when conducting the research aspect. It was very hard for me to find topics which were suitable not only for the brief but also for the design part for the final submission of the modules deliverables.  For studio brief 1 - Public Spaces the aim of the brief was to design a suitable representation of the chosen event. This must be traditionally printed that mean using the process of screen printing. The screen print poster must be in the paper size A3 and the deadline for this was the 5th of May as the poster would be put up in the Level 4/5 exhibition.  When commencing this brief, I had a hard decision on which event I wanted to do a poster for, especially with the event I had researched the following events were: Leeds...

Studio Brief 02 | Product, Range and Distribution Brief | Breastfeeding Controversy - Evaluation

Evaluation To conclude for studio brief 02 - product, range and distribution I believe I have done a decent amount of research and work for this kind of brief. However, I do believe if I had more time or spent more time on this brief. I could of done a lot more for the final design submission.  At the beginning of the brief I found difficulties to what kind of issue/subject to do for this brief as that was part of the requirements. I first decided to base the issue on disabilities (universal design, work & employment and Paralympics). But when I got feedback from my peers and tutors based on this issue research. They all informed me that it would be quite difficult to present this issue. Especially on how serious it might affect the audience, so I had to e careful with what I wanted to show.  I had a few days to think about this, and I did find it very challenging to come up with designs with was related to the researc...

Studio Brief 02 | Product, Range and Distribution Brief | Breastfeeding Controversy - Final Design

Final Design For the final design of the 'Breastfeeding in Public' issue. I have done three main series posters with a repetition slogan for the target audience and public to think about when analysing the posters design. Then with the stickers the pink cartons can be distributed within the supermarkets dairy products items such as milk, cheese, creams etc.  I believe this will definitely have a big impact to how society will perceive the message of the stickers. Especially when breast milk is very similar to cow's milk. Even the substance, texture and from research the taste. The stickers can also be use for supporters of the 'breastfeeding in pubic' movement.

Studio Brief 02 | Product, Range and Distribution Brief | Breastfeeding Controversy - Final Feedback & Prints

Final feedback Prefer the red, blue and green carton toned down so the pink carton is more visual.  The stickers of the pink cartons which has a pink ring around it has positive remarks. When applying the facts onto the poster was not  aesthetically appealing as it made the poster overcrowded.  Create a brief based on breastfeeding in public. There was a bit of a challenge for me to choose between which poster should be part of my final submission. So in the end, I decide to submit a series of poster designs.  A leaflet might be appropriate to accommodate to the work I am currently producing.  Final prints When printing my final products I  decide to print out on the stain/glossy paper for the four final posters and for the stickers in a matte material.  I  originally  asked for my stickers to be printed out in A4. However, it came out in an A3 size at first I was going ...
