OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 04 | Action against Animal Cruelty Campaign Brief |

The Brief : Action against Animal Cruelty campaign - Collaboration with Aneta Sidorko (Graphic Design) Context:
“Action against animal cruelty/Petection"  – This is an enormous issue, due to the scale of animal cruelty which has still not been completely eradicated today. Animals have been used for testing since 1922 when animal testing was allowed to enable insulin to be isolated from dogs. Prior to this isolation, individuals with diabetes essentially 'wasted' away from the metabolic effects of uncontrolled high blood sugar. In the 1930s, modern anesthetics and antibiotics were developed from the use of animal testing. In addition, anticoagulants and kidney dialysis, both life-saving treatments, were introduced following animal testing. According to research by Cruelty Free International and the Dr Hadwen Trust at least 115 million animals may be used in experiments worldwide each year. The UK is now the biggest reported user of animals in the EU, with 3.9 million e...

The Brief - Collaboration with Leah Chen (Graphic Design) & British-born Chinese Society (University of Leeds). Outlines: “Made in Britain/ Not Made in China/Our Generation"  — integration of the different cultures (Chinese and British). Timeframe: 1 to 2 months : March/April/May. Considerations: Who is the intended target audience? Anyone with an interest in culture; young adults, students; people of similar background. What purpose does it serve; what do you want to achieve from this brief? The celebration of the two cultures and individuals; to understand integrity and the effects it can have in life. Culture is often celebrated for a large group rather than the minority — in a way, wanting to get our voices “heard”, or at least show that there are different sides to a said culture. What are t...

One potential idea is to d esign four buckets that will be seasonal and celebratory. For example, a s celebrations for Halloween are more popular today, a design for this will be created which will depict pumpkins, cobwebs, brooms, a witch’s cauldron (with chicken pieces flying out). The background will be orange, but will contrast sufficiently with the pumpkins.   A Christmas design will show a Christmas tree with friends sitting around, eating KFC this is inspired by The Japanese and how they celebrate Christmas these include fried chicken and a birthday cake.
