OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 08 | Research | Student Starpack Awards 2018 - Luxury Family Range of Cans for Tea or Coffees

Research/images of current and previous Tea tins or Coffees
Before commencing this brief it is essential to begin looking at current and past designs of tea or coffee tins. This will help guide which tin shapes which are appropriate and practical to contain tea bags or leafs and coffee in a hygienic matter.

Particular tins that were researched of the brief were the following: M&S, Betty's, Selfridges and Harvey Nicholas. These specifically brands were selected due to the briefs objective is to create a 'Luxury tea or coffee' tin, therefore it is important to research high-end products.
The images of the tins are below:

By referring to these types of tins all of them as very similar circular and long. Whilst the design atheistic are very simple and contemporary expect to the Betty's design which has more traditional patterns and illustrations. The only difference of these tins are the Selfridges packaging is made of paper or fabric material thus giving the design a more of a luxury approach. These design aspects are to be considered while designing, despite the design factor there is not much variety of a secondary/multi-usage when the content of the tin is finished. This is another element of the tin that needs to be consider when the consumer purchases the product. The main audience of this kind of product are tea/coffee lovers it is significant to cater for their preference this maybe of functionality, materials, distribution, multi-usages and design.

Colours of the tins can also be a big factor on how it attracts the consumers attention, patterns, shapes, illustrations are a very common theme for high end tea and coffee tins. Thus this is another consideration to think about in the design process of the tea design.

Illustrations of a paint brush stroke was experimented to give the pages more characteristics. We mutually agreed to make the size of the publication A5 format, and the number of pages are 16. Previously it was going to be 17, however one participant was unable to provided us with their childhood photo for us. Due to this situation Leah had to be more selective with the photos and information (Quotes) that we believe was significant for outlining our briefs context.  Below are some images of this layout format: Participant page order by names: Katie Sung  Leah Chen  Jackie Wan Tracey Lau Eliza Mo Kylie Lee Lewis Capper...

Studio Brief 02 - Licence to Print Money | History of Money & Banknotes Research

Money History The word money comes from the Latin 'Moneta' - which is the first Roman coinage that was minted at the temple of Juno Moneta in 344BC. Before coinage, various objects such as cattle, pig's teeth and shells had been used as money. For most of its history money has taken the form of coins made of precious metal. The money has had intrinsic value. Many of the units of modern money recall their origin in amounts of precious metal (e.g the pound sterling was originally the Roman pound (twelves ounces) of silver.) The Beginning of Banking in Britain In Great Britain, the modern age of banking began in 1640 when King Charles I, needed cash to pay the (English) army that he was raising against Scotland ( of which he was also King.)to seized the golf bullion that many merchants and nobles had placed in the Tower of London for safe-keeping. In 1642, a further warfare broke our with the English Civil War between the King and Parliament. London was the stronghol...
