Studio Brief 01 - How Do You Read? - Inspiration and Ideas

In this blog, I began to start my small publications idea by deciding what kind of important subjects that are within Design Principles. However, I will be only selecting some relatives parts of this topic matter within my publication or the most useful parts. That students or the audience what to know the basics of them.

For my research I went back to the Design Principles lectures that our Year tutor (Danny) taught us previously. By reflecting and refreshing the information he taught us. I created a blog to hold the main factors of design principles information that I believe which are important to know as a Graphic Designer within my small publication. I have also got more important information of design principles online from websites. Here is an example of what important topics I will included in my small publication:The elements of design & the principles of design. However, if you want to see this in more detail, or my research that I will put in my small publication it will be on my blog and the final design small publication physically produce.

For the visual side of my small publication, I have looked into some other Graphic Designer Artists work in which they have styled and layout their artwork, especially on type, layout and format. By this I can get an inspiration of how their art style can help me design my small publication. The two Graphic Designers that I have mostly looked into as my inspiration for this brief are: David Carson and Andrew Bannecker. I chose these two
as I believe their style of work is suitable for this small publication. Carson has a very simplistic yet captivating style of work The way he works with typefaces is extraordinary as it creates a good harmony along the page or poster. This is show in the poster called ‘End of Print’. The way he has styled this is a combination of different typefaces along
with neutral colour scheme. Whilst the other Graphic Designer Bannecker is more of the Illustrator Graphic Designer, again he is quite minimalistic yet he has more of a colour scheme of bright colours. Which can be useful within the Colour Theory section.

Finally, I have collected some images from the internet & pinterest on how I will bind my small publication. I think I will experiment a bit with the elastic band binding as it easy yet effective way for putting a book together.

Publication Layout - Leah For the inside of the 'Our Generation' publication, the collaborator Leah was in charge of this  brief's outcome segment. The publication's layout was constructed with 'Adobe Indesign' Leah made guide lines and measurements to help assist where the Photographs and the text should be placed. Illustrations of a paint brush stroke was experimented to give the pages more characteristics. We mutually agreed to make the size of the publication A5 format, and the number of pages are 16. Previously it was going to be 17, however one participant was unable to provided us with their childhood photo for us. Due to this situation Leah had to be more selective with the photos and information (Quotes) that we believe was significant for outlining our briefs context.  Below are some images of this layout format: Participant page order by names: Katie Sung  Leah Chen  Jackie Wan Tracey Lau Eliza Mo Kylie Lee Lewis Capper...

Studio Brief 02 - Licence to Print Money | History of Money & Banknotes Research

Money History The word money comes from the Latin 'Moneta' - which is the first Roman coinage that was minted at the temple of Juno Moneta in 344BC. Before coinage, various objects such as cattle, pig's teeth and shells had been used as money. For most of its history money has taken the form of coins made of precious metal. The money has had intrinsic value. Many of the units of modern money recall their origin in amounts of precious metal (e.g the pound sterling was originally the Roman pound (twelves ounces) of silver.) The Beginning of Banking in Britain In Great Britain, the modern age of banking began in 1640 when King Charles I, needed cash to pay the (English) army that he was raising against Scotland ( of which he was also King.)to seized the golf bullion that many merchants and nobles had placed in the Tower of London for safe-keeping. In 1642, a further warfare broke our with the English Civil War between the King and Parliament. London was the stronghol...
