OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 02 | Final Design & Evaluation | Ed's Hairdressers Logo Design

Final Design Below are the final designs of both the logo, shop sign mock up, business card mock-ups and product examples.  These choices are made by the clients.  Business card mock-ups Product mock-ups Hairdresser's store sign mock-up Feedback from client "We were very pleased and satisfied by how quickly and efficiently Katie worked and  designed the logo for us.  Everything was delivered on time. Katie always  communicated very well. We were both impressed with how she incorporated the feedback we gave into her designs, s he always consciously and aware of what we wanted overall, sent many new variations of the logo designs, always referred back to feedback and messaged us for specific information (e.g. Business card enquires) and she was able to explained her designs to us and how it would be much better (i.e. change of the colour scheme).  To conclude the final results were great.  I would highly recommend Kati...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 06 | Final Design & Evaluation | YCN Student Awards 2017/18 - KFC Bucket Design

Final Designs Below are the final designs for the KFC Bucket design.  These are the choices which I believe that are appropriate to the KFC outcomes. The reason of uploading two designs was because it is optional to upload more than one design to the competition brief and there was a draw between the final two designs. The template from the YCN KFC brief was used to help structure my vector and illustration designs. The metallic bucket the stickman could be foiled to make it an limited addition.  Submission - Email Confirmation from YCN Evaluation In conclusion the design process of the YCN's KFC brief challenging yet enjoyable. In the beginning of the brief, finding a concept/theme was the most difficult part of the bucket design. Especially looking at other entry designs via Behance. A lot of concepts were already made and taken, thus persuading my design to be completely different from the majority.  By regarding to the entries design o...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 05 | Final Design & Evaluation | Student Design Award 2018 - Children's Cover Award 'Nought & Crosses' by Malorie Blackman

Final Designs Below are the two final designs of the 'Noughts and Crosses' book cover. These include the markings of the children awards template.  Submission On the screenshot of the email it has confirmed my submission.  Evaluation In conclusion the design process of the Student Design Awards 2018 - Children's award 'Noughts & Crosses' by Malorie Blackman was challenging yet enjoyable. In the beginning of the brief, finding a design idea  was difficult  part of the design. Especially when I personally haven't read the book or have no prior knowledge what the storyline, it's characters is about. A lot of concepts of the 'Noughts & Crosses' the recurring theme are drawing illustrations of noughts and crosses or O's and X's.     By using these past and present entries design located in the google images, penguin website and bechance. I was able to identify and acknowledged what recurring shapes, colo...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 09 | Final Design & Evaluation | OOHDEER Brief - Pitch A Papergang competition!

Final Designs Below are the two final designs of both the Pastel colours Origami pieces. I added small golden stars to both pieces to give the design more  character . Origami Cranes Pattern Design Origami Stars Pattern Design Submission On the right hand side is a screenshot of both designs uploaded to the oohdeercompetitions instagram page.   Evaluation In conclusion the design process of the Papergang boxes was challenging yet enjoyable. In the beginning of the brief, finding a concept/theme was the most difficult part of the box design. Especially looking at previous winners and other artists work. A lot of concepts were already made and taken, thus persuading my design to be completely different from the majority.  By regarding to the previous winners and other entrie...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 06 | Development 2 | YCN Student Awards 2017/18 - KFC Bucket Design

Due to the schedule difficulties for this brief I was unable vectorise the colonel illustrations as quickly. Therefore I went with the second idea which is the stickmen climbing on top of fried chicken like KFC fried chicken. The stickmen are either on top, posing, underneath, pushing, presenting or running next or to the fried chickens. This symbolise that working hard together and helping each other you deserve a reward which is KFC. Below are colour schemes of two KFC bucket designs.  Provided template for KFC Bucket Development designs - Designs Feedback I like the concept of the stickman very simple yet effective.  It would be good if the metallic stickmen could be foiled as a final piece.  Love the way you did the chicken designs, looks appetising.  Putting your self branding logo is uniques as well as your signature, along with the date.  Maybe fill in the stickmen h...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 06 | Development - Sketches & Ideas | YCN Student Awards 2017/18 - KFC Bucket Design

Initial Sketches The initial sketches are illustrations of the four seasonal celebrations: Halloween, Christmas,  Easter and Summer Holidays. These are to represent that all seasons can be celebrated with family and friends and eat good fried chicken from KFC that's what the bucket is for. The use of using the Colonel from the KFC brand and dressing up as Santa for Xmas, Vampire for Halloween, bunny for Easter and Sun as for summer. The other idea was to do a similar concept as the Olympics packaging on Coke cola. In these sketches are variety of stickmen figures doing different poses and vary shapes and sizes. Illustrator Vectors After deciding which illustrations looked  ideal  for the KFC bucket are shown below. Colour schemes Below are the assorted colour scheme given by the YCN KFC Brief. These colour swatches (Black, Red and White) are not supposed to be altered in anyway and must stay the same. This includes the KFC logo shoul...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 03 | Content & Interviews | BBC (Our Generation) - Life being British Born Chinese

Content During our meeting we noted down 45 potential questions, some which we thought of ourselves and some that we asked others of what they wanted to know. But after gaining feedback, the most important thing was what do we want to tell others, rather than what others wanted to know about us. We mutually agreed to split it into 3 sections: general question, "story time" and for recording (which will be optional), this was so we could pick out potential quotes for the publication and get a general overview of how the individuals perceive themselves and if there are any similarities. Potential Questions/Quotes for Publication: What do you classify yourself more, Chinese or British?  Do you have an identity crisis? Do you feel like you have an alter-ego with your two different cultures? For example, you act different as your “British” self (Tim) to your “Chinese” self (Zixiang). Do you engage with your heritage, or are you not too fussed? Do you think there ...

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 02 | Development 3 | Ed's Hairdressers Logo Design

Secondary Development In this secondary development stage as following the previous feedback from the client. I experimented with the two chosen appealing colour schemes. Various shapes for the outline  of the Ed's logo were also experimented (diamond, rectangle and circle). The typefaces used for the 'Hair' were Futura Medium, Montserrat Light and Medium, Eurostile, and Alcubierre. Below are examples of the experimentations - Whilst using the colour black for the main colour for the logo type, this colour was more difficult to see between the purple and blue and purple background. Therefore the colour white made the 'Ed's' more noticeable against the darker colours.  Development -  apostrophe design Underneath are the logo designs with the apostrophe included. Different shapes and sizes of apostrophes designs have been combined with the logos. The thickness, thinnest and depth helps consumers to recognise the...
