By using these past and present entries design located in the google images, penguin website and bechance. I was able to identify and acknowledged what recurring shapes, colours, textures, typefaces and illustrative styles were the most appealing to the 'Noughts and Crosses' audience. Majority of the designs were very illustrative or some designs typically used typefaces as their overall designs cover. Therefore it is vital that the designs for my Penguin book designs consist of similar same elements aspects. The influence of my designs were mainly from example from the penguin website, as they had simple yet striking aspects and it's clear to the audience which book they are picking up.
I tried to execute some illustrations designs like the two characters linking pinky to promise/shows their fate is to meet one another (Thus told in the storyline of the book). It overall looks good, however it looks like comic illustrations. However, adding the extra symbols such as the noughts, crosses, '&' and hearts pattern helps the design look more attractive. Whilst the plain noughts and crosses designs - very similar to the penguin examples. However the colour scheme was inspired the original colour on the example with are monochrome colours and some yellow. I used metallic colours such as, gold, silver, bronze, black and white. The gold representing the 'X' - African who are empower and 'O' which are the european who are the minors.
Overall, I found this brief enjoyable. The reason of the challenging stages was that the brief was able to test my illustration and drawing skills. Thus digitalising them on Abode Illustrator and Photoshop. In addition I would do this kind of competition brief again in the future if the opportunity comes.

Evaluation
In conclusion the design process of the Student Design Awards 2018 - Children's award 'Noughts & Crosses' by Malorie Blackman was challenging yet enjoyable. In the beginning of the brief, finding a design idea was difficult part of the design. Especially when I personally haven't read the book or have no prior knowledge what the storyline, it's characters is about. A lot of concepts of the 'Noughts & Crosses' the recurring theme are drawing illustrations of noughts and crosses or O's and X's. By using these past and present entries design located in the google images, penguin website and bechance.
