Facts and Figures

On average every 30 seconds, someone in England and Wales dial 0300 1234 999 - the RSPCA's 24-hour cruelty line - for help. In 2016 they received 1,153,744 phone calls.

Their inspectors now investigate more than 149,000 complaints of cruelty and neglect every year.

In 2007, the Animal Welfare Act became law in England, shortly after it was implemented in Wales. Described as the single most important piece of animal welfare legislation for nearly 100 years, the Act places a legal obligation on owners and keepers of animals to care for them properly.

Approximately 3.2 million shelter animals are adopted each year (1.6 million dogs and 1.6 million cats). About 710,000 animals who enter shelters as strays are returned to their owners. Of those, 620,000 are dogs and only 90,000 are cats.

In the UK, about 1 in 2 households own a pet with around 20 million pets owned (excluding fish).

Every year the PFMA commissions the well respected Pet Population report, which looks in detail at pet ownership trends. In 2017 it is estimated that 12m (44% of) households have pets. The pet population stands at around 54 million.

Each year a representative sample of UK adults are interviewed, by TNS, in face-to-face interviews, regarding their pet ownership. Historically, a sample of over 2,000 people were interviewed each year, but in the last two years, a sample of over 4,000 people have been interviewed. In order to further reduce statistical uncertainty, survey results are averaged over 2 years, giving an effective sample of over 8,000 people.

Publication Layout - Leah For the inside of the 'Our Generation' publication, the collaborator Leah was in charge of this brief's outcome segment. The publication's layout was constructed with 'Adobe Indesign' Leah made guide lines and measurements to help assist where the Photographs and the text should be placed. Illustrations of a paint brush stroke was experimented to give the pages more characteristics. We mutually agreed to make the size of the publication A5 format, and the number of pages are 16. Previously it was going to be 17, however one participant was unable to provided us with their childhood photo for us. Due to this situation Leah had to be more selective with the photos and information (Quotes) that we believe was significant for outlining our briefs context. Studio Brief 01 - How Do You Read? - Second Development

In this blog, I have finish printing out the physical small publication book of Design Principles. I believe this second development work was successful as the colours of the type has been nicely and evenly printed out.The information on the pages are arranged properly in the right order as to the the one on the Macbook. However, I need to chose a different type of paper stock which is much sturdier, e.g - card stock. As when I put the rubber band around the spine of the book it curls. Even though the visuals of the book is very minimalistic and simple I believe this is appropriate to the audience who would read this kind of book context. Especially, for young students who want to learn the right knowledge and information of design principles, whilst becoming a Graphic Designer. For the colour scheme I went for a very neutral yet colourful scheme, as these colours only outline the significant factors of Design...
