OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 03 | Development - Final Publication cover design | BBC (Our Generation) - Life being British Born Chinese

Secondary Publication front and back cover designs
After our discussion based on the first set of publication front and back covers we decided to redo the designs as the same set of photos would be used again for the inside of the publication. Additionally the contrast of the colour scheme and photos had a complete differentiate against one another. Therefore, we concluded that the photos will be used for the inside of the publication than the publication cover. We mutually agreed that we like the sticker designs and that it will be used for our front and back cover.

The first set of the front and back cover of the publication development uses our chosen colour scheme (blue, red and yellow) and using the Chinese and English typefaces known as Helvetica light and Hiragana Maru Gothic Pro created the overall publication cover design. To reiterate the polaroid stickers will also be concluded to the cover design due to popular demand and positive feedback. Below are the first set of designs of the back and front publication covers:

First initial set of front publication cover
Below are the first set of the publication covers, the use of the typeface repeating the title 'Our Generation' is mainly the base design for the book cover. These were tested with our chosen primary colour scheme. The yellow colour was difficult to see against a white background, therefore the colour black was used to make the title stand out. The position of the stickers on the cover design we were born happy about and the another polaroid vector was used to label the creators of the publication. To reiterate the combination of having the Chinese and English translations were used to create more of an aesthetic design that portrays our context and concept of our publication and brief. Despite this design we agreed that this design had too much design elements within one page, therefore more development is needed to substitute this design aspect.

Secondary set of front publication cover
This set of front cover design uses a white boarder which outlines the Chinese translate of 'Our Generation'. With the use of the Chinese characters outline cut out the background colour of the previous cover design can come through the Chinese outline. We both agreed that we like this design concept, however the text coming through the Chinese outline still looked too chaotic and busy. Therefore, my collaborator Leah suggested to use the the colour background but without the 'our generation' inside the Chinese Character. Additionally, 'our generation' is already repeated on the sticker designs - there is no need for repetition.

Third set of front publication cover
Following from the second set of the front publication cover. By discarding the repetition of 'our generation' inside the Chinese character and having just the one plain colour as the background. These are the results of testing this development in a design format. We both mutually agreed to use the multi-coloured design for the back and front cover for our publication design, especially as it uses all elements of our chosen colour scheme and the sticker designs that showcase our logo/brand/publication title.

Final set of front and back publication covers
Below are the final set of the final front and back publication covers. There is further development design for back cover of the publication. We discussed and decided that the blurb on the back of the publication cover should be the same as the creator polaroid design. To experiment with which angle 'landscape or portrait' the polaroid blurb should be.
My collaborator (Leah) will experiment by putting some illustrative graphics on the ends of the blurb polaroid design.

OUGD603 | Extended Practice | Brief 03 | Development - Publication Layout design - Leah | BBC (Our Generation) - Life being British Born Chinese

Publication Layout - Leah For the inside of the 'Our Generation' publication, the collaborator Leah was in charge of this  brief's outcome segment. The publication's layout was constructed with 'Adobe Indesign' Leah made guide lines and measurements to help assist where the Photographs and the text should be placed. Illustrations of a paint brush stroke was experimented to give the pages more characteristics. We mutually agreed to make the size of the publication A5 format, and the number of pages are 16. Previously it was going to be 17, however one participant was unable to provided us with their childhood photo for us. Due to this situation Leah had to be more selective with the photos and information (Quotes) that we believe was significant for outlining our briefs context.  Below are some images of this layout format: Participant page order by names: Katie Sung  Leah Chen  Jackie Wan Tracey Lau Eliza Mo Kylie Lee Lewis Capper...

Studio Brief 02 - Licence to Print Money | History of Money & Banknotes Research

Money History The word money comes from the Latin 'Moneta' - which is the first Roman coinage that was minted at the temple of Juno Moneta in 344BC. Before coinage, various objects such as cattle, pig's teeth and shells had been used as money. For most of its history money has taken the form of coins made of precious metal. The money has had intrinsic value. Many of the units of modern money recall their origin in amounts of precious metal (e.g the pound sterling was originally the Roman pound (twelves ounces) of silver.) The Beginning of Banking in Britain In Great Britain, the modern age of banking began in 1640 when King Charles I, needed cash to pay the (English) army that he was raising against Scotland ( of which he was also King.)to seized the golf bullion that many merchants and nobles had placed in the Tower of London for safe-keeping. In 1642, a further warfare broke our with the English Civil War between the King and Parliament. London was the stronghol...

Katie always  communicated very well. We were both impressed with how she incorporated the feedback we gave into her designs, s he always consciously and aware of what we wanted overall, sent many new variations of the logo designs, always referred back to feedback and messaged us for specific information (e.g. Business card enquires) and she was able to explained her designs to us and how it would be much better (i.e. change of the colour scheme).  To conclude the final results were great.  I would highly recommend Kati...
